Project Deep Dive

The Problem

China’s national grid is still heavily reliant on fossil fuels, with 63% of their electricity generation coming from coal in 2022. Burning fossil fuels releases GHGs into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming.

The Solution

The Yunnan Gaohe River 4th level Hydropower Project addresses this issue by providing zero-emissions clean power to China Southern Power Grid which is dominated by fossil fuel fired electricity. The project generates electricity using a run-of-river hydropower plant, harnessing the power of the river, without the need to create reservoirs.
