More than 90% of Madagascar’s original forests have been destroyed, displacing entire animal species and taking away the ability for locals to farm sustainably. To help restore the much-needed bio-harmony on the island, Furthr has joined up with world-renowned tree planting charity Eden Reforestation Projects to plant trees across multiple mangroves in the north-west of the island. Mangrove forests are essential ecosystems, serving as an anchor for the soil and coastline, whilst preventing erosion and creating a barrier between oceans and land.

Furthr 2021 Tree Target

4000

Fact File

30 separate planting sites reforestation projects in the north of the island
Provides habitat for local wildlife
Generates local employment for those living in extreme poverty

Jointly managed between Carbonbay & Nuetech, this program distributes & promotes solar water heaters throughout India, enabling water to be heated directly from the Indian sun. Despite this clear benefit, the lower price of standard electric heating means that these solar-powered water heaters are still scarcely used. This is why Carbonbay & Nuetech have joined forces to distribute these cleaner and more efficient solar panels across India, whilst simultaneously raising awareness & educating residents on household actions they can take more generally to save energy & combat the climate crisis.

Annual Carbon Prevented

140,000 tonnes

Fact File

Enables 60,000 more homes to heat their water directly from the sun each year
Cuts fossil-fuelled electricity usage by up to 30% for each home
Brings this direct sun-driven renewable energy source down to an affordable price
Starts the revolution to scale this simple solution across all of Asia

Why India?

  • With a population of over 1.3 billion, India has one of the largest energy demands on the planet
  • It's one of the sunniest places on the planet, with most of the nation seeing sun for 300 days a year
  • But 9/10 people still use fossil-fuelled electricity to heat their water

Located in the Sidrap region of South Sulawesi, this project is the first ever wind farm to provide clean energy to Indonesia's national power grid. Not only does this mark an incredible milestone in a country that is notoriously dependent on fossil-fuelled energy sources such as coal, but the scale of this farm's output is vast, with enough clean energy to power around 70,000 homes each year. As a plus, the project also creates jobs within both project development & construction, with most being filled by the local citizens from the region. No wonder it was inaugurated by the president! Sidrap's carbon prevention is verified by Gold Standard.

Project Certification

Annual Carbon Prevented

141,000 tonnes

Fact File

Indonesia's 1st National Grid-supplying wind farm!
Produces enough energy to power 70,000 houses cleanly each year
30 turbines with total capacity @ 75 MW
Employment Creation: 35 jobs with equal pay opportunities

Why Indonesia?

  • 60% of Indonesia's power comes from carbon-intensive coal
  • If just half of Indoneisia's wind energy potential was captured, it would power the whole nation
  • Funding is needed to cut the price of wind energy vs Indonesia's extensive coal supply
