About this Project
The Problem
In Malawi, solid biomass is used as cooking fuel, but supply does not adequately meet demand, and over harvesting of wood is leaving the country vulnerable to land degradation.
The solid biomass releases GHGs into the atmosphere when burned, contributing to global warming. It also created air pollution in homes, creating health risk, especially for women and children.
The Solution
The project provides energy efficient clay stoves - called ‘Chitetezo Mbaula’ in Malawi - to villagers. By reducing the amount of fuel needed by thousands of families, it leads to important emission reduction. It also contributes to 9 out of 17 UNSDGS!
